I have been dyeing like a maniac, getting ready for my open house this Saturday. Along with coming up with 2 new colors for my spinning fibers and yarns, I am perfecting a new way of dyeing plant-based yarns (cottons & rayons, etc) that aren’t so hard on my body. The way I used to do it required standing over a table, working the dye into the yarn, which was hard on my back and neck. It was also labor intensive–not only the actual dyeing, but all of the prep work. Because of all of that, I haven’t done any of it I think since I moved my studio to my house. Needless to say, I was out of any yarn that wasn’t an animal fiber, which I dye differently. Just yesterday I got the bright idea of a new way to dye. I always come up with these ideas at the last minute. I think I’m going to still have to do some tweaking, but I’m getting results, and I’m very excited about them.
So, if you are in the area, come on by! It’s Saturday, March 15th from 1-4. E-mail me for the address.
