Just Saying Howdy-Do

03.12.09 webcam

So, I’m reading this book about building your “platform” so that life will be all ready when your book comes out. By platform, it means readership, followers, all of that kind of stuff. I haven’t gotten too far into the book, but it did talk about getting your blog readership built up, and that means posting frequently. I doubt they had posts like this in mind. Oh well.

I’m just amusing myself with my web cam. I’m trying to work on making samples for my book, but my studio is kind of cold (okay, really cold) even though I’ve been running the heat all day in it. So, every little thing that could possibly be a distraction to keep me from working is happening. I don’t know if it’s just me, or if other people with long hair have this issue, but my hair is often a “distraction” because it gets in the way a lot. I was trying to work, and it was just always there, getting in the way. So, I put it up. Sometimes throwing it up into one ponytail hurts my head. Not that I have heavy or thick hair or anything, but it is long. So sometimes putting it up can add to my head/neck problems because it “pulls” just from gravity. Anyway, I decided to put it up in two ponytail buns. They don’t pull as much as one ponytail. This is the first time I’ve tried it. It looks kind of dorky, but I was just wanting to get the hair out of the way. Then I thought, “hey, I should take a picture with my web cam with my Princess Leia hair. . ” One thing led to another and well, here I am. It’s amazing how much I can distract myself at times.

Okay, I’m making hot chocolate and then I’ll work. I wonder how many readers I’ve gained through this fabulous post?

“Luke, I am your…” ha ha ha. Cute hair. I tend to ignore my hair. It bothers me if it’s up. I’ve had paint in it, glue in it, glitter…hell, today I had TAPE in it and I had NO clue. hee hee.
I hope it gets warm in there soon-leggings and thick socks are my answer..maybe fingerless gloves, too.
    :)

I have been reading anyways but thought I would comment as one of those in your readership. I just recently started moving some things out in the garage (we live in WA) and we don’t have a heater in there either so it’s so cold (even though probably not compared to where you are). Love your webcam trials. I recently got my first laptop and have been using Skype a little bit too. I have a built in webcam on mine. :)

Kelly: I’ve got on as much clothes as I can and still comfortable move around. Unfortunately, I can’t really wear fingerless gloves when I’m working with paint. Well, I probably COULD, but the ones I’ve got I’ve made: dyed the wool, spun the yarn and knitted them. So I don’t want to get them messy. Maybe I should get a cheap pair . .

magicalmuse: You’re lucky your laptop has a camera built in! I think that’s the norm these days. My laptop is about 5 years old, and the apple people hadn’t started putting the cameras in them yet.

I think I have a hard time getting my art house heated up, even though I’ve well insulated it, because of the floor. The little building just sits on the ground basically, on its steel joists. So I think a lot of cold air comes up through the floor. I have a cheap carpet down, but it’s not enough! Hopefully warm weather is back on its way. We were teased with it last week, but it got cold again.

I understand the hair thing, I have short hair now and it still get in my face. I slap on a bandana, ala aunt jamima. Kind of like a hair net.
