So, I’m using skype for my phone. I ditched the landline to save money, and so far, it’s working out great. A big plus is that I always had trouble not answering the phone when ever it rang, which was distracting when I was trying to work. And unless I just unplugged the phone, which was a pain in the butt and meant no one could leave a message, I’d have to just let it ring until the answering machine picked up. Now, since my phone is my laptop, I just shut it! And skype also has options to just send calls to voice mail, which means I don’t hear the phone ring. So I’m digging it so far.
My laptop is oldish, so it doesn’t have the new built in camera that the newer mac models have. And, I wanted to be able to have video calls with my other (few) friends on skype. So I got a cheap web cam. As usual, there aren’t that many for macs, and they cost more than I wanted to spend. But thanks to macam, which is a driver that allows a lot of PC only digital cameras and web cams, I could get a cheapie. There seems to be “lag”, which means it’s a little jumpy. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe because I’m not using the software that came with the web cam? Don’t really know. If anyone knows, let me know! Anyway, I have fun with new toys, and so I made a quickie little movie trying it out. I thought perhaps I could use it to make little movie tutorials, but . . . maybe not.
P.S. In case you are wondering, I’m using the Logitech QuickCam Connect for Skype. I can also take still shots with it. It looks like an eyeball, which is fun, and it comes with interchangeable face plates–so it can look like a blue eye, a red eye, or an orange eye.
Okay, enough playing. I’ve been waiting for my art house to warm up enough for me to get some more work done on my book . . .

Hi Traci!!!
We see you
LOVE the hat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Kelly! I still have it on because it’s freakin’ cold! Even in my house.
My best friend sent me a Logitech as part of my birthday gift (she lives in Florida) and we use Skype all the time. I loved this, that hat is fabulous!
You should try to find a reasonably priced space heater for the art house! I have an old one in my room because I’m in the basement, and it works wonders, even if it is old and I fear lighting myself on fire.
Brent, I DO have a heater in my art house. But it’s been so cold here the past week, that it takes 3/4 of the day to get warm enough to comfortably work in there. I hate leaving it on during the night because my utility bills are so high.
Yeah, those heaters can suck energy like crazy. I’ve been looking at a few of the newer efficiency models that use less and aren’t combustion-based so they can’t catch on fire. Pricey buggers.
It’s snowing here today, and I just want to put my head in the oven so I feel you!
Let’s both just move to San Fran and open a fabulous art house/studio. Sound good?
