My Felted Dreadlock Curtain for My Art House

I like the ponytail dreadlocks I make, and one day I was walking Ruby, which is when I get my best ideas, and had an “a-ha” moment. I got the idea to make really, really long felted dreads and make a dreadlock curtain for my art house, similar to those beaded curtains. I always wanted one of those, but never had the space for it.

My wide art house doorway would be perfect! And I certainly have a lot of hand-dyed yarn to use for it. Which was good, because it used a lot of yarn. When I felted them, they shrank to about half of their original length. It took quite awhile to make them (several viewings of “American Idol” and other TV shows–I can’t watch TV without doing something), but it was worth it.

I made them in 3 different bacthes because each time I thought “this should be plenty, ” but after I hung them up, they looked too sparse. So I made more, and more. I think the amount looks pretty good now and I love the way they look.

When the weather is nice, I like to have the door open to my Art House while I’m working in there. That way it’s almost like working outside, plus Ruby and the cats can come and go as they please.

After I hung them up, I decided the door mat I had been using, which was left when I bought my house in 1995, had to go! I found a cool one at Target that had a retro look to it and the colors matched my art house perfectly! I’m ready for Spring & summer! Bring them on!
