As you know, I don’t get very political on here. But, I just got the information to renew my health insurance. I’m self-employed, which means I have to pay all of my health insurance. My premiums have been going up every year by 30%. This year with that increase, I’ll have to pay an additional $70/month. I already struggle to pay my bills, and sometimes I can’t. Having to pay an extra $840/year for basic bottom of the line health care insurance, which means I’ll be paying $3360/year for insurance which barely covers anything, is insane. I am faced with having to decide whether to drop my health care insurance or not. I have some health issues (like my neck problems) that make it scary for me to do that. Last year when I went to a pain specialist, where all he did was talk to me for 10 minutes, that 10 minute office visit was almost $700. I feel like I’m between a rock and a hard place.
I found out that my health insurance company, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, is using my money to fund campaigns against President Obama’s Health Care Plan. That’s not how I want to use my money.
Please speak out against this and urge your congressmen to stand with Obama for the health insurance plan where we as individuals can have the choice of a public plan or a private plan for our health care.

It's not a political issue when it affects the lives of so many people. It's not political when it's a life or death issue for some.
I don't have health insurance, nor does my husband. Our son does and there's a chance with the way things are in CA right now that he may lose it.
I agree with you Kelly. There are a lot of people that will probably lose or have to drop their health insurance, me being one of them. It's a vicious cycle that is affecting us as a society. I don't want to have to chose between health care or food or keeping a roof over my head with the utilities on. Especially since I have a chronic health problem.
Something has to be done.
I pay $7 a month for my son's insurance and that's medical, dental and vision. I have no problem paying for insurance but it has to be something that all of us can afford. I don't see why they can't set up something similar for adults that doesn't cost a mint and covers basic services.
Oh wait, I forgot that the system is run by the health insurance companies. Every industrialized country has a national health insurance program except the U.S.
Although I work for a large ins co., our insurance premiums go up every year and have a high deductible. Everyone is feeling the pain and somethings gotta give. Have you considered or you may have the BCBS Affordable plan with limited office visits?
Lanora, I "think" that's what I have.
I understand the rates will go up each year. But going up 30% every year is too much. My premium has more than doubles in 2 years. That's crazy, especially since I have the bare-bones plan.
I agree completely – health care should not be a privilege, it should be a basic right. It floors me that we are the only first world country without it. I truly hope that President Obama can get his health care plans off the ground, and soon. I think it would also help economic recovery as if there were national health, there would be a lot more people who would start small businesses (such as your own) as they wouldn't have to rely on a large employer for this. Hence, from a grassroots level, we would be rebuilding the economy by creating more jobs. Why don't we run the world, Traci?
Thank you for bringing up this issue, Traci. I signed the petition and hope many others will as well.
I totally agree with you Traci. Dh & I are fortunate to have health care at a reasonable price but so many in my family don't and have had to make decisions to go to dr. when sick or not.
I've always felt everyone deserves health care as a basic right too.
I encourage people to watch the documentary "Sicko" in hopes of getting people on the bandwagon.
(Available at the library). And mostly good.
His plan is still not up to par with other countries but it is a step in the right direction.
Yes we can!
I pay $644 a month for a HIPPA plan after a $125 increase this past year because I turned 50. I also went on disability in December but Medicare does not cover my medications so it was still cheaper to keep this expensive insurance. So my meds are about 375 and I pay another $98 for Medicare – no choice in that. Got to pay for something that really gives you nothing. Oh and then I get about $1100 a month on disabality. Thank God I live with my boyfriend or I would be on the streets and who would care?
I retired and had to drop my health insurance…talk about scary…becasue I'm no spring chicken anymore. The insurance companies are spending a fortune(hard working people's money) fighting against the health care issue. We need to have a public option at the very least.
