So last week when I was teaching at Art & Soul in Hampton, VA, I ran into Michael DeMeng. He said in typical Michael fashion,”Dude, did you know Ricë (Freeman-Zachary) is driving around visiting artists and she’s going to Lawrence?” My response was something like “Really, why Lawrence?” Then I saw Ricë and her husband Earl, and verified that they indeed would be in Lawrence the following weekend. So I gave her my card, and told her to be sure to call me and I’d meet up with her. She and Earl were picking up Kelly Buntin Johnson and then coming to Lawrence to meet up with Aimee Myers Dolich. So I was going to be a party crasher and join in. Funny that it took them visiting for me to meet another artist in my town, and one outside of KC.

So today, we all met up at the Yarn Barn, which is a fabulous yarn store (that carries some of my hand-dyed goods!), then we walked around, stopped in some fun stores and ate at the Free State Brewery.

Then we walked over to my friend, K.T. Walsh’s house because it’s definitely a “must see” when artists come to town. It’s hard to take photos that do the whole yard justice. Luckily K.T. was home, so I got permission for us to walk around in her yard.

You can see more pictures here.
Then we hit some more shops, and I got this fabulous tape!
The next stop was my house so that they could see my studio. I didn’t take any pictures since, well, I live there and see it all the time. But Earl took pictures and Ricë has already posted them to her blog so you can check them out there. But here’s a photo of my studio that I took last year.
No visit would be complete without taking them across the street to the cemetery. It was all dolled up for memorial day. So I gave them a tour, showed them the mausoleums, the area where I took the opossum(s), and some of the cool tombstones, including the one with the altered Jesus statue and the Wiggles. And that was the end of the visit. It was a lot of fun and I’m so glad they came! Now I want to go use my new spinal tape!

Thanks so much for the tour, Traci–we had a great time!
I know how easy it is to get swallowed alive by work, so I'm glad you got to hang out and spend time with other creative people!
This did look to be a real fun day! I bet your were just thrilled to have spent the day with such creativity!
