Sketches from 02.05.11

I got mixed up on Day 25 when I said I was too pooped to do any sketches. I actually did a lot of sketches that day because I went to a life drawing open studio session at the university. (I never moved away after college, so I live in the same town as the college I graduated from.) It was free and happens on a regular basis. Check around your area to see if there is something similar you can go to. Doing life drawing is very different than drawing things around your house. I hadn’t done any life drawing since I was in college oh-so-many years ago. I had déjà vu not only being in the art building, but also going back into the room where I had some of my drawing classes. To add to the déjà vu, two of my friends from college were at the life drawing session!

These first two were done on newsprint with pencil. The size is 12″ x 18.” I use both sides of the paper, and the other side shows through a little bit.

These four were done in a spiral bound sketch book that is 11″ x 14.” It’s a great size because it’s big enough to “spread out” but not too big to throw in my bag. Three of them were done with my now fav marker, the PITT Big brush artist pen. The last one was done with pencil. Doing sketches of a live model in marker is making a commitment! The models can’t help but move, so there is no way really to adjust the drawing when they do. I just went with it, and basically did quick sketches with the marker. But I really loved the boldness of it.

Here are my other posts for this project.

These are great. Especially love the ones in marker pen. I'm going to my first ever life drawing class soon, I will remember to chuck in a few different things to draw with x

Definitely bring different things to draw with. The thing you think you might like to use the best, might not work out as great. I bought some new pencils that were harder than I like to use, so I didn't even use them. I think next time I'll take some charcoal! Have fun at your class!

These are great Traci – I love life drawing classes, they are an excellent way to gain confidence drawing. I was horrified the first time I went to one – I didn't know that was the class at Uni that day! But I love it now and recommend it to everyone.
