As usual, I waited until late to work on art. I don’t know why I do this late at night instead of earlier in the day. I actually do really like working on art at night, but since I’m having to photograph it & blog about it before going to bed, I really need to do it earlier. Tonight I wanted to start on a possible series of reworking photos with mixed media. By the time I picked a photo and printed it out, I felt pretty tired. I was so worked up last night when I went to bed, from working in my journal late, that I couldn’t get to sleep. So I pooped out earlier than usual tonight. I had to make myself go to the art house and do some work. (*Speaking of my art house, see the end of the post about what happened this afternoon!)
I mounted the photo on a canvas board and got started, but after a few minutes, I wondered if I could call it a night. And then for some reason I started having the conversation I sometimes have with myself about whether or not I’m really an artist, and what the fuck did I think I was doing. Luckily that passed pretty quickly, I got energized and got into what I was doing. I went from one extreme to the other where I started out feeling like an art fraud to feeling pretty groovy about what I was doing. Isn’t life grand that making art can change our mood and emotions in such a short time? I can’t have caffeine because it triggers migraines for me. But making art is my natural caffeine. I need to remember that and when ever I’m feeling drowsy, I should go do some art work instead of taking a nap!
One of my paints burped out way too much paint when I squirted some out. I really hate wasting paint, so I grabbed one of my journals and painted a page that had already been collaged.
*Earlier today, there was a knock on my door. It was my neighbor telling me I better go outside because a tree limb fell on my trailer.

It was somewhat of large branch, and it came from way up on the tree. When it fell, I’m not sure if it did any damage to the roof of my art house. My art house looks like a dairy barn, and has a really steep roof. So it’s too tall and steep for me to be able to see if everything is ok. I don’t look forward to dealing with the branch(es). But I’m thankful it didn’t fall through the roof of my art house. That would have been a tragedy for sure!
I hope everyone who is also doing 30 Days of Get Your Art On is having a good time. If you found out about this after I started, don’t worry! Just start your 30 days when you can. Please leave a comment with where we can see what you’ve done. You can see the rest of my posts for this project here.

Oh, Traci, I hope the roof of your art house is okay. I love the Madonna you’re working on. It’s funny, I couldn’t decide whether to work in my big journal, which has a photo of a cemetery madonna I took last summer in it or work in the “Teesha Moore” style 16-page journal I’ve been struggling with. I chose the latter and journaled a little bit about strength. http://nerdygirlguide.blogspot.com/2011/07/gyao-day-3-art-journal-page.html
Oh my goodness! I hope your roof is alright. What was that tree trying to tell you, I wonder. *smile* I love the madonna, and actually had some paint blurp today as well. Here’s what I’ve worked on today.

Lovely work Traci. Sorry about your art house – hope all is well. I was also struck by your experience of “not feeling like an artist.” I had that same negative voice whispering in my ear. “You’re a writer,” it said. “Stop playing with those pencils and write — this isn’t good enough anyway.” Sigh. What I love about doing my art is that I don’t have to be an expert. I don’t have to think about making a living from it. I just get to enjoy it. And the funny thing is making art frees me up to do my writing. Since I started this challenge, I’ve written so much more!

never question how much of an artist you are, your work is beyond beautiful, and is so much an artform, from choosing your colours to placing the elements onto a page to writing everything you do to create a page in your journal is an artform…and ur fkin fantastic at it!!

Altering photos is a lot of fun, but time consuming and not always comes out as hoped for. This one looks very cool. I hope you get your art house free from the tree soon. Enjoy!
HI Traci! I have posted days 1,2 and 3. I was wondering if there was a way for you to put a sidebar where all the people who are participating would have their links, it would be much easier to check on everyone that way!

I’m hoping to hear in your next post that there was no damage. We had a microburst the day before yesterday that took down 18 power polls and a few trees. Remarkably, no one was hurt.
Great journal pics! I love the hot, vibrant pink!
I’m working on altering a book in a way that’s so different from how I usually do things it’s become a challenge, but so far it’s fun. My day 3 was all about making revisions. It’s here if you want to look:
