30 Days of Get Your Art On – 09.28.11

I started my morning with a half hour of art again. I have to say, I think this way of starting the day suits me. This morning, I made a coil-bound book. I already had the old book covers cut and ready to go along with some of the pages. So, I was able to get the whole thing finished in just a little over my half-hour time limit this morning.

The inside pages are a mix of all different kinds of paper, such as watercolor & drawing paper, a few pieces of braille paper, and pages from old books. The book can be used as a sketch book or a journal, or really whatever you want to use it for. You can apply a thin layer of gesso to the pages to tone down the printing and to strengthen them if you like. Or collage on them!

If I don’t sell it Friday night at Final Friday’s gallery crawl, I’ll have it for sale soon in my online shop. If you are in Lawrence, KS Friday night, please stop by and say hello! I’ll be showing with 2 friends in their Downtown Upstairs studio at 824-1/2 Massachusetts. It’s above the Downtown Barber shop. We’ll be open from 6:30-9:30. Bonnie & Clyde will be downtown also, dining at the historic Eldridge Hotel. And rumor has it, there just might be a robbery. (They robbed their first bank right here in downtown Lawrence!)

Tonight I got some frames to frame the pieces I did on canvas board. They look so much more “substantial” when they are framed. It really enhances their look. I wish I would have had time to make more pieces for Friday, but I’ve got a nice start for my first time to participate. I’m also making a banner so people will know to come in. I’ve got the fabric dyeing right now, and tomorrow I’ll paint it. Did I mention the entire manuscript for my book is due Monday? Uh, yeah. And tonight, I still need to do more work on this one knitting pattern I’ve been editing. It needed a lot of work, and I’m almost done. But I’m not going to stay up crazy late because I really do need to take care of myself. But, it’s already after 11pm. Okay, back to work!
