About Me

Traci Bunkers is a passionate mixed-media & fiber artist living in Lawrence, Kansas.

I love rusty things, glitter glue, old books to cut up and cheap cameras. I’m smiling when my hands are dirty with paint or when I’ve altered a camera or something to use as a printing tool. It means I’m doing what I love—making art and doing things with my hands. Lucky for me, I do what I love for a living.

For this self-proclaimed love child of MacGyver, making her own books, printing and stamp tools and art journaling have been a long time passion of hers. She always feels better after getting her art on by slapping some paint down and working in her journal. Through her one-woman business Bonkers Handmade Originals, she sells her nifty creations such as hand-dyed spinning fibers and yarns, original rubber stamps, handmade books, kits and original artwork. She also creates an artzine called Tub Legs, designs knitwear, and is a knitting, spinning and crochet technical editor. She has been teaching workshops across the US since the early 90s and has branched out into online workshops.

Her first book, Print & Stamp Lab, is on alternative printmaking techniques and tool development. Her second book, The Art Journal Workshop, is an in-depth and hands-on approach to visual journaling. Her visual journal pages and artwork have been also featured in many books, including The Creative Entrepreneur: A DIY Visual Guidebook for Making Business Ideas Real by Sonora Beam, True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by L. K. Ludwig, 1,000 Artist Journal Pages: Personal Pages and Inspirations by Dawn Sokol, Kaleidoscope: Ideas And Projects to Spark Your Creativity by Suzanne Simanaitis, and The Complete Guide to Altered Imagery by Karen Michel. Her studio was also featured in the summer 09 issue of Studios magazine.
