I’m working on a children’s book right now, and today I worked on some of the projects. I didn’t want to work until crazy late, like I sometimes do, so I called it a night to do my drawing for the day. I felt like drawing paisleys!
Working this way, drawing lots of different things along the same theme, is a great way to come up with new ideas on the theme. It’s a way of brainstorming with drawing. I want to color it in, but I’ll do that another time. I’m trying to be better about not working so late. Especially since it’s getting harder and harder for me to get going in the morning when I do.
Today marks the half way point of 30 Days of Drawing! And I started a new sketchbook. I’m using a Strathmore Mixed Media Visual Journal.
The one I’m using is 9″ x 12″, with 90 lb paper. The only drawback is, it’s too big for my scanner! I’ll need to photograph it to show the whole page, which really isn’t a big deal. But for tonight, I just scanned it because I didn’t feel like going back out to my studio to photograph it.
These are really great sketch books and journals–they come in different sizes with different papers. When they were new on the market, Strathmore sent me some in different sizes and papers to see how I like them. And I do! Almost a year ago, when I did my first 30 days (30 days of Carving), I started in a Strathmore Visual Journal. They work well for all different media. When I get some time, maybe this weekend, I’m going to art up the cover.
I hope everyone is hanging in drawing every day, even though December is a crazy busy month! You can see the rest of my posts for 30 Days of Drawing here.
I love children’s books. I didn’t know how good they were until I bought a few boardbooks for Alan.
My book is a kid’s book on stamping/printing. I think it’ll be out this next year.
