Jill Berry’s Stencil Blog Hop & Giveaway!

Today is my turn in a blog hop to introduce Jill K. Berry’s new line of stencils, TEXTures, from Artistcellar. There are 4 stencils to this set, and they are all from Jill’s abstracted calligraphic work.

I decided to use them on a journal page.

I applied some collage and paint after putting down a thin layer of gesso.

Then after putting some more paint onto the spread, I decided to print with one of the stencils for a background. I used a brayer to roll some paint onto the wrong side of the stencil.

Then I put the stencil paint side down onto the journal page. I put a piece of wax paper on top, and used a clean brayer to roll over it to make sure it all printed. The wax paper is to protect my brayer from paint.

Then I printed more.

Before the paint was completely dry, I used a baby wipe to scrub around, removing some of the paint. (I like grunge.)

After drying it, I collaged down some things, and added some lavendar paint.

Then I stamped some text with my Nashville Alphabet stamps. And used the Runes stencil to stencil some graphic borders.

Here’s the finished journal page. For the writing, I used a [amazon_link id=”B002LJRKN8″ target=”_blank” ]Pentel Pocket Brush Pen[/amazon_link], which I love to write with. I also used a black [amazon_link id=”B000S14PFM” target=”_blank” ]Sakura Glaze Gel Pen[/amazon_link], a red [amazon_link id=”B001I2C0VQ” target=”_blank” ]Pitt Big Brush Marker[/amazon_link], one of my hand-carved rubber stamps, and added some subtle color at the very end with [amazon_link id=”B000WKGAY8″ target=”_blank” ]Stabilo Woody Watercolor Crayons[/amazon_link].

  1. How do you think you’ll use the stencils? Well, there are so many things I can do with them, I can’t just pick one, but I think I would first try my hand on a Journal Page, then move to the front and create a PaperFabric Cover, using them. Would be even greater to win a set. TFS and the chance to win.

  2. It has been very interesting to see the many different ways these stencils are being used by the blog hopsters. I like the approach you took, it is one I could easily adapt to my own use.

  3. Another yummy, multi-layered page, Traci. Thanks for the inspiration! I also really appreciated the tip about using a brayer on a stencil backwards then flipping and covering with wax paper. Can’t wait to try that!

  4. Thanks for another great, multi-layered page — excellent inspiration, Traci! I particularly love the way you came back in with the blue runes towards the end. They seem to fit your style so well.

  5. Wow! I love your blog! I hadn’t been here before but will come back many many more times! I would use the TEXTures stencils on a variety of backgrounds for mixed media! Love them! And thank you!
