The Prepared Journal; 12-week session:

the Lawrence Arts Center
940 New Hampshire Street, Lawrence, KS 66044
sign up is through the Lawrence Arts Center, online or call 785-843-2787
This 12-week, easy-going workshop will teach you a fun, and stress-free way to colorfully transform an ordinary book into a journal or artist’s book. Using the style of a gluebook for a jumping off point, we will create visual and tactile layers, using collage and mixed-media techniques to get a rich, textural surface metamorphosing a book into a finished work of art in itself, or the basis for a visual journal. The way that we prepare the book will make it easy to use anywhere as a journal or art book whether you are in a coffee shop with just a pen, or at home with all of your supplies. I find this way of working very fun and soothing.
Each week you’ll learn various mixed-media techniques that can be applied to other types of art work. Since this class spans 12-weeks, there will be more time to work than in my 1 or 2-day intensive workshops. And, depending on the book you are using, there will be enough time to complete the book and start on another. We will also decorate the covers.
Note: we will not be doing any journaling exercises in this class.
No art experience necessary. All skill levels are welcome!
