That might sound dramatic, but for the first time in what seems a very long time, I’m pretty excited about something! And, I have something to look forward to!
For most of this year, I’ve been working on catching up with my back income taxes. As a totally self-employed person who does a variety of things to earn money, that means I had a lot of papers and receipts to go through, and a lot of info to enter into my accounting software, just to get to the point where I could take everything to an accountant. It’s been very time consuming, stressful, and soul crushing! And while doing that, I still had to work at earning money.
Because of that, I really haven’t been doing any artwork, or taking photographs, which added to my ennui. For my upcoming birthday in November, my sweet friend Karla Winterowd, owner of Winterowd Fine Art in Santa Fe is flying me in for a visit! I’m so grateful and excited. Not only will I get to see her, I’ll also get to visit my soul sister Juliana Coles in Albuquerque. Hopefully while I’m there I’ll have a chance to hop over to Taos to visit two friends who are also artists: Christa Marquez, a great friend from college, and also Leighanna Light.
The great thing about having something like this to look forward to is it gives me fun and inspiring things to think about: what I want to do creatively while on my trip; what toy cameras to take; what art supplies to take; what places to visit for art inspiration or photo filed trips; do I want to make a new sketchbook for the trip; and on and on.
Last night I looked through all of my old, dusty, and neglected film cameras to start thinking about which ones to take with me. And that inspired me to surf the web to see images taken by other people with the same cameras. It’s nice to have something creative to think about and something exciting to look forward to!
Hope you have a magnificent time & find fantastic surprises along the way!
Thanks Vicki! I’m really looking forward to it.
No one deserves a treat more than you! See? There is a God in the heavens and all is right with the world. Be sure you stop by the Ark bookstore in SF…just to soak up the energy. Maybe a meal at Paschal’s….a stop at Ojo on your way to Taos…so much joy. Congrats and high five!
Thanks Pam! The Ark Bookstore is definitely very cool. I’ve been there on a past visit. I don’t believe I’ve eaten at Paschal’s so I’ll have to check it out.
Glad to have you back. Sorry to hear about your back taxes. Hope they are completed now! I guess the best bet is to keep up with your bookkeeping as you go so it doesn’t become such a burden later. I do the bookkeeping for our small farm so I know what you mean about having to go through a lot of paperwork. Have a great trip to visit your friends.
Aloha, Kate
Kate, I’ll be dealing with the taxes for awhile, but I’m on track! And yes, I’ve learned a very painful lesson about getting behind. Hopefully that won’t happen again. It seems when I get caught up on one thing, I’m behind in another. It’s hard to juggle everything! I’ll definitely have a great time on my trip. Thanks!
So glad to hear/see that you’re still alive and kickin’. Having a trip to look forward to is awesome. You will have a blast, I’m sure. You lucky girl…I love Julianna Coles.
Yes, having something fun trip to look forward to is GREAT! It’s the first trip in years for me that doesn’t involve teaching or vending at a show–PURE PLEASURE!
enjoy! having something to look forward to and plan for is fun in itself! enjoy NM!
