Mulligan Stew Spinning Fiber Art Batt (no. 12)

I call this line of spinning fiber batts that I create "Mulligan Stew" because they have a little bit of this and a whole lot of that.

I prepare and card the batts myself on my drum carder by layering a combination of different hand-dyed fibers, both natural and synthetics, to create a nicely textured and colorful batt. When spun up, you’ll end up with a novelty yarn without having to do anything fancy to make it happen. Some of the fibers I used in this batt are sari silk, merino, superwash merino, tencel, silk, bamboo, nylon, angelina, silk noil, acrylic, mohair, and what ever else tickles my fancy at the time. Each batt is one of a kind, and will have various fibers in it.

After spinning it, use it as a single, ply it on itself, ply it with another fiber, or ply it with another mulligan stew batt that you have spun up! I think these look best, showing off the different colors and textures, if they aren’t spun too finely.

I hand-dye the fiber with professional acid dyes that are colorfast and washfast. This batt is 4.2 oz.

To spin, tear it into strips the length of the batt, preserving the different layers.

(Note: I do my best to make sure the color looks accurate, but, everyone’s monitor is different. So the color might look different in real life than it does on your computer. Hand-dyed colors vary from batch to batch, so please be sure to buy enough for your project.)
