Open House, Workshops & Gift Certificates!

I’ve got lots to tell you about. First of all, I’m having another open house.

February 28th, 1-4pm
1313 Elmwood St., Lawrence, KS 66044

in the Orange Art House in the back.

My studio is only open by appointment, so this is a great time to come and check things out. I’ve got unmounted art rubber stamps and lots of fun alphabets, hand-dyed yarns and spinning fiber, handmade pin-back buttons and pocket mirrors, handmade journals & books, and lots of other fun things. So some on by! E-mail if you have questions, and no early birds please!

Next up, I have gift certificates available on my web site! It’s a perfect way to give a gift to someone. And the great thing is, after you buy a gift certificate, you can transfer any dollar amount you want to different people! In other words, you can buy one gift certificate and share it with several people! Click here for more details.

And last but not least, I’m having some more workshops at my studio. The Love and Fear 2-Day Journaling workshop went well, so I’m ready for more!

Uber Self Portraits
Saturday, March 7th, 10-5:30pm
with 1-1/2 hours for lunch

Even if you have no painting or drawing skills, in this process & project oriented class, you can create a mixed-media self-portrait that is larger than life and out of this world in coolness. Not only will I show you how to make this 16″x20″ work of art, I’ll also show you the beauty in looking big and working big. We’ll paint, draw, collage and stamp on top of blown-up photo copies to create a piece of art that blurs the line between a photograph and a painting. The process is started in pieces and then joined together to be finished as a whole. It can be mounted in class on a stretched canvas or canvas board so it’s ready for framing. Or, you can mount or frame it when you get home. This project is also great for experimenting with different coloring materials or mark making techniques.

Fab Art Boxes
Sunday, March 8th, 10-1pm

Come and have fun making a fab art box to hold your supplies, treasures, or photos! Well play with paint, stamps and collage material to create a functional piece of art that is beautiful inside and out. I’ll guide you with color and composition decisions and help you let go and let the juices flow! Your box can have a theme or just be cool. You’ll refill “the creative well” and have a great time. “The Complete Guide to Altered Imagery” by Karen Michel, features one of my art boxes in the gallery section!

PostArt Cards on the Edge
Sunday, March 8th, 2:30-5:30pm

I get a little tingle when I think about making mail art cards because I love them so much. I love everything about them—the art-making process, the smell of beeswax (if I wax them), noticing that my postal clerks no longer react when I hand it to them for postage, and then waiting to hear from the recipient that they got it. Although I sometimes make these cards without a recipient in mind, I usually make them for a specific person. They have more meaning that way, and I always fully put myself into them. So when they reach the lucky recipient with the postal service as my messenger, they are getting a blissful part of me.

In this inspirational workshop, I’ll share my euphoric process for making these immediate double-sided works of art—the process, the oddments of recycled and found materials that always go together just right, and the layers and textures. These PostArt Cards on the Edge can be any size, any shape, any media. We’ll have time to make several different ones in class, ready to be mailed, and hung by the lucky recipient.

There is room for 8 people maximum in each workshop, so don’t wait until the last minute to sign up!
