“What About Me” Visual Journal Spread

05.10.11 visual journal spread

This is a journal spread that I started during an art journaling workshop that I taught this spring in my studio. I haven’t worked in my journal, well, since that workshop I think. And this morning, I really, really needed to. I usually work in order in my journal, and finish up a spread before moving on to start the next. But while teaching that workshop, I got started on a few spreads that I didn’t finish. This wasn’t the next spread to finish, but it’s the one that fit the most with what I needed to work on. Although I had already put on the “What About Me?” when I started the spread during the workshop, it ended up taking on a different meaning.

I used one of my new henna stencils, and the alphabet rubber stamps are Nashville and Steelfish. The doodle stamp on both sides of “me” is from my Doodles & Carvings stamp sheet.

Have you worked in your art journal or done something artistic for yourself (lately)? Now that I’ve finished the 30 days of Journaling, I find I’ve gotten out of the habit of doing something creative (for myself) everyday. I really need to remedy that. It’s making me cranky.

  1. Hi Traci,

I LOVE your journals, and I found you in the middle of your 30 day journaling spree, and loved every page! I also love your hand carved stamps, something I’m planning on working on over the summer. I also ordered the henna hand stencils which I LOVE, and just used on a journal page, and plan to use them lots more! Please start journaling more! I really look forward to your blog posts! Also thank you for the little postal stamps you sent with my order! My journal pages are on my blog, but this newest one isn’t there yet.

  2. i haven’t worked in my art journal for way too long. In fact, maybe not even in 2011 at all yet…and that makes me sad. i’ve been busy making art that quickly leaves my hands, and after reading your post, i realize this may be at the heart of my own crankiness. i think i will remedy this, as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and a beautiful spread!
