I haven’t worked in my journal for a little while, and was running short on time, so I got a start on a journal page. I still haven’t figured out a good work schedule for myself so I’m not working on art late at night, almost as an obligation. Not that I mind working on it late at night, but I normally still have other work I need to get done. So I’m feeling like I have to cram it in. I don’t like that, and it’s not why I wanted to do this. Showing up is half the battle. But I want to show up with more intention as a practice of working on art. And I want to work in a way that I’m creating a body of work for a gallery show or to sell. So I’m still trying to get it all figured out, and I know it won’t happen over night. So, that’s something I’ve been thinking about. I need to figure out how to be more efficient with my time, and to not let myself get distracted through out the day. Those things are so important when you are not only self-employed, but work at home. I know I also try to do too much, but kind of feel like I have to to pay the bills. I know that working on my blocks, like I journaled about, will help me with all of that. It was instilled in me as a kid that you have to almost kill yourself working to just make ends meet. I’ve been working on letting go of that because it’s not working for me.

I believe I read somewhere that it’s important to schedule in your art time. Since you’re a working artist, that’s your “leisure-taking care of me” art time. Is there a way you can schedule it in earlier in the day for you?
Sometimes an exercise like this one helps you find the way to make it all work. And I know you will. 🙂

So glad to see another journal page! Your journals are so inspiring. There’s so much in them and I can spend lots of time looking and still miss stuff that I see when I come back later. Amazing work!
