30 Days of Get Your Art On – Day 14

07.14.11

One advantage to not completing a journal page in one sitting when I’m documenting it, is that I can go back and see what it looked like part way through the process. I always find it interesting to see the evolution. Here’s what this journal page looked like last night.

When I started on it tonight, I was feeling okay, but feeling like I just keep getting more and more behind with everything. I listened to a webinar yesterday that didn’t click with me too much, but I did pick up a few pointers. The main one was to set very specific goals, otherwise vague, general ones are setting yourself up for failure. This is one of those things I’ve known, but need to be reminded. So as I was working on the journal page tonight, I was thinking about that. One of my goals is that I want to get to where I don’t do any business stuff on the weekends. And then after that, work toward not doing business stuff at night. Those sound like great goals, and it’ll be huge for me once I am able to do that. Now I need to set up some ideas on how to make that happen.

At any rate, the evolution of this page is interesting. Tonight I started with writing about feeling like I’m behind and can’t catch up–so feelings of being overwhelmed–to being my own cheerleader and making a specific goal to work on. To be fair to myself–I do have goals that I work on and have accomplished (hey, I’ve written 2 books in a year and a half! Those were big goals.). And I do feel I’m making progress in many ways with my life. It’s just a process that takes time. And I’m getting better at looking at what I have done, instead of all of the things I haven’t done.

See the tape along the side of the statue, and also up at the top of the page? Those are tapes I have for sale, but just haven’t gotten around to photographing to put in my online shop. I’ll let you know when I do! (It’s on my list . . .) Here are two detail shots. I couldn’t decide which one to use, so I’m using them both.

Tomorrow’s the half-way point! Is everyone hanging in? If you’ve missed a day or two, don’t beat yourself up! I’m glad to see that more people are finding out about this and joining in. You can see the rest of my posts for this project here

Oh, I almost forgot! I really am feeling the need to do some purging. I’ve just got way too much stuff, and it’s holding me back. So, I’m going to have another giveaway for some art supplies. I don’t know yet what they’ll be. And they might be some gently used things that I am just not using anymore, so it’s time for them to find a new home. I’ll announce it Monday. So tell your friends!

  2. Hi, Traci! Found your YouTube video on how make an art journal page tonight and was just so inspired. Nice to know you’re doing this 30-day get your art on challenge, as I’ve been itching to make something but never seem to actually sit down to make stuff.

Just wondering too: where do you get those lovely henna stencils?
