30 Days of Get Your Art On – Day 26

small painted, collaged canvases

Today was a long day of editing knitting patterns for the upcoming issue of Knitter’s Magazine, and also tweaking things on my blog. I’m not a code person (or what ever those people are called), but I’m a good investigator and figure-outer. So you might notice a few things tweaked on my blog. Now, you can reply to people’s comments, have them nested so you can tell what they are replying to, and you can be notified (if you want) when someone replies to your comment. That might not seem like a big deal, but the “theme” (a theme is like a template) I’m using for my blog, wasn’t written so that comments could be nested. So I had to find the code to put in, and keep tweaking things until it worked.

The other day on my blog, I installed a plug-in so that you can comment by being logged in to facebook. That comment box is underneath the normal one. When you comment in the facebook comment box, it’ll post to your facebook wall with a link to my post! I also installed a plug-in that posts my blog posts to my facebook wall, and then when people comment on it on facebook, the comments also show up on my blog. I haven’t been able to get the comment sharing part to work yet though, and might give up on that one. I have an obsessive personality, so when I get started on something like that, it’s almost impossible for me to quit until I get it finished. Tonight I kept looking at the time and thinking I needed to get my art on, and then I kept messing with my blog.

By the time I quit, it was late and I was pooped. The rain we had the other night only gave us a very brief relief from the heat and it’s still been in the triple digits. So the heat has been adding to my lack of energy. I of course didn’t want to skip a day, but knew I didn’t have the energy to do something that would take very long, and then still have to photograph it & blog it. I looked around, and saw those little collaged canvases that I collaged on Day 22. So I added paint! I love using paint. I love applying it in different ways. Tonight I used a brayer, a credit card, a brush and even my fingers. It perked me up, and I love how these are turning out. It’ll be fun to see what direction they take.

How is everyone doing? I’m glad to see that some people are still posting. Is everyone hanging in, getting their art on? You can see the rest of my posts for this project here.

P.S. This time next week, I’ll be hanging with my pal, Juliana Coles in Albuquerque! I’m very excited about going on a real vacation!

  1. I’m still doing the art part of Get Your Art On but the blogging…not so much.
I think I’ll try to catch up on scanning (having camera issues) and set up a flicker file for this art. I’ll let you know if that happens.
BTW – I love your little canvases! Love the colors!

  2. I love that you added to canvases you’d already painted, and that it made you feel better afterward! I always feel better after I’ve taken the time to do something–almost anything–creative, rather than to call it a night without having gotten to artwork.

That’s what’s so awesome about your 30 Days. So far, I’ve actually stuck with it, and I feel so much better having done that every single day! I’m really thinking that I’m going to keep this up even after the 30 days, but I won’t pressure myself more than a week at a time. This has been so great for me personally. Thanks, Traci!

And on another note, I’m off to spend some time with an old friend of mine too, so I’m feeling your excitement about your visit to NM.

Here’s my work for the day:

  3. Traci, I admire your energy! I’m still hanging in – did a long night session of get my art on last night to add a blog after being away for several days in DC at a conference. Once I started it was so much fun I couldn’t stop – I think I really missed the process while away. This morning I awoke refreshed and ready to play with an abstract painting. You can see the results here:

  4. Lovely colors on the canvases. I’m still here and creating. Just haven’t posted here in a few days. My blog posts are labelled and every one the last 3 weeks has the 30 days label. I’ve really produced more than usual and I thank you for the challenge, Traci. Hope you get to enjoy your vacay! xoxo
