I decided to draw a self-portrait tonight. I used Photo Booth on my mac to take a picture, and then drew from looking at the computer screen. I drew with a Pitt Artist Pen – fine point, and used my Koi watercolor set. I kept working it, and telling myself to stop because I was over-working the paper. But then I’d grab the brush and work on it some more. I did this for awhile until I got firm with myself, and said I needed to quit. So I did. Sometimes I listen.
I hope those of you who have joined me are still happily plugging away with drawing. Remember to be gentle with yourself, and don’t do any negative self-talk about your drawings. The important part is doing it. They’ll get better with time. And to paraphrase Eric Maisel, what you say to yourself might be true, but does it serve you to say it? Usually not!
