This summer, I taught several different week-long art classes for middle school to high school kids at the Lawrence Arts Center. It was so much fun, and the kids did some great work! Here’s one of my adorable, young students, showing his book that he made, filled with collaborative prints, drawings & collage.
I’m currently teaching Book Arts Journal & Sketchbook Club after school for kids there as well, that meets for 12 weeks. That gives us lots of time to make different books and explore a variety of things, including altering books, art journaling, and sketching. Even though we just had our third class, you can still sign your kid up for it. The Arts Center will give you a discount since class has already started.
Aside from teaching kids art classes, I’ve also been getting my art on! I went through a period of not really making art, but thank goodness I’ve gotten back to it. Some of my new pieces are already in my online shop, and some have already sold! Here are two small ones, Reconciled Peace and An Open Invitation, that look kind of sweet together. Both are 6″ x 8″.
Here’s a bigger piece, 20″ x 20″, that’s not in my online shop, but I should have it ready to go for my open house this Saturday.
I love this piece because it’s so vibrant (even more so in person), and when you look at it up close, you can see a lot of texture and detail. Here’s a detail of it.
Speaking of my open house, I’m having a Studio Open House this Saturday, Oct. 1 from 1-4pm.
Click on the above image for more details. I’ve got tons of hand-dyed spinning fiber & yarn, and also my mixed-media artwork and photographs. I’ll also have a brand new spinning fiber that’s pretty awesome! It’s a tencel and merino blend, but different than what I already have because this one is a 20% tencel/80% merino blend, and the tencel is black! So it dyes up pretty beautifully with nice contrasts between the streaks of black and the hand-dyed merino. Here’s a peek.
Don’t be sad if you can’t make it to my open house this Saturday. I also open my studio up by appointment! So if you’re going to be in the area, get in touch with me and we can set up a time for you to come by.
Last but not least, I’m also going to start a Fiber Club! This will be different than the Bonkers Yarn & Fiber Club I had a million years ago. This one will be a quarterly subscription club, and members will get about 4 oz of select spinning fiber sent each month, that non-members won’t be able to buy for awhile. I’m figuring out the details, and will post when I’ve got everything decided. I’m going to start with just the fiber club, and after I see how that goes, I’ll start a Yarn Club too. So stay tuned for that.
I have never seen such color combination.
Great job.
