30 Days of Get Your Art On – 09.07.11

sufi heart 3

I continued working on the series of small 6 x 8 canvases from Day 26 of the first go round of 30 days of Get Your Art On. The first photo is the finished one. I LOVE it. It’s definitely done. Like the others, I screened the main image on with a thermofax screen. The heart originally was a hand-carved stamp that I made, and the whole image is one I made for my Journaling stamp sheet–it’s part of the book plate.

Here’s what it looked like after I had screened it a few times, and added a few layers of paint here and there. But it just wasn’t it.

The next phase, after more screenings & more paint, was getting there, but it was too muddy. The next layer was the ochre that you see in the final version (the top photo). After I lifted my little thermofax screen, I could feel it in my gut. That was it! DONE! I think this one is my favorite of the 4 canvases.

Like last night, as I worked, I added the excess paint to the same journal covers. LOVE.

The outside might be done. I love the colors. I love the texture. Before I do anything more, I’m going to scan it. That way I can use the colors & textures for something else if I want. It’s look great as it is, but I’m not sure it would hold up visually once it’s made into a book. It might need a central image, or border. I’ll have to think about it. Those are things I could even do after I make it into a book.

I have been busy, and haven’t had time to add anyone’s name to the list of participating artists. Ayala posted a comment asking about it, and after I replied that I hadn’t had time to add anyone’s name yet, and I wish I had a way for people to add their own . . . a light bulb came on! (not right away, it was when I was walking my dog, letting the thoughts simmer around in my brain.)

I changed the links page so that if you want your name & link listed, simply add it in the comments on the Participating Artists Page. You can still also add it on my blog posts in the comments. But if you want it to be easy to find, you should also add it to the participating artists page. By doing it this way with you adding it yourself, it saves me time, gets it done if you want it done, and I don’t have to feel guilty about not having had time to do it yet. Win-Win! I was so happy once I figured that out.

And before I had that realization, I spent the whole day (unfortunately not an exaggeration) trying to get my blog to be readable when viewed with Internet Explorer as the browser. Sharon Bennett messaged me in the morning, asking if I could make my blog easier to read because there was no white behind the text–it was my painted journal page background and it was impossible to read. She was using Internet Explorer as her browser. I was stumped, and this was the first I had heard about this problem. Long story short, I tried everything I could think of. I figured out a solution, but wasn’t sure how or where to do the code to make the background just white (no cool journal background on the edges) when only viewed using Internet Explorer. I posted my question on the WordPress.org forum, and within 7 minutes, someone told me exactly what I needed to do. YAY!

So, in some ways, my day was unproductive doing what I really needed to be doing (actual work), but I did get these things 2 accomplished, plus I had a great time getting my art on! You can see the rest of my posts for 30 Days of Get Your Art On  here.

Also, a quickie reminder about my Gocco for sale on eBay.
