Today was life drawing up at the university! So that’s how I got my art on today. DRAWING! It was great. The 3 hours just flew by and I didn’t want it to be over. I wish they had these open sessions once a week. They are FREE and anyone can go.
We started off with doing blind contour 30-second poses! It was a great way to loosen up, and I had fun with it. I didn’t bother taking any pictures of those because they just look like fast scribbles. And since they were fast scribbles, I did one on top of the other.
Normally the graduate student who is in charge just tells the model how long the poses are. But not today. Today the grad student, David Titterington, was fantastic in that he gave suggestions and talked while we drew. So he was very much guiding the session. It was like a free class. I told him after the session how much I appreciated his interactions. Check out his web site. His paintings are incredible.
The first photo is the last drawing that I did. I used pencil, my Koi watercolor set and my a Pitt Big Brush Artist Pen.
This one (above) is a quick study for the drawing in the first photo. I love drawing with the fat Pitt Big Brush pen.
What did you all do to get your art on today? You can see the rest of my posts for 30 Days of Get Your Art On here.
so far, how do you like the Koi watercolors as compared to the Van Gogh? I’m getting close to runnign out of some colors in my little Van Gogh box…
Also, didn’t you do an interesting post of a model laying down a few months ago, I think it was a foreshortened post? I started going to drawing group (with a live model) last week & would have loved to show the model your painting as she was asking for suggestions for poses!
Jessica: I really like the koi set. I have the set of 24, and like having all of the colors. And I like that it comes with a water brush that fits in the case. The VanGogh set has a little more umph to the colors–they are more concentrated. But I had to carry my water brush separately. So they both have their pluses & minuses.
I don’t recall which post you are referring to, and don’t have time right now to dig around to figure it out. Sorry! But you could search my blog–there’s a search button up in the top left. Try searching with life drawing or nude model, or even just nude. Some of those posts should come up.
thanks for the info about the koi set! One thing I couldn’t figure out from the DickBlick site was the size of the pans in the 24 color set… they’re smaller than half pans, aren’t they? Hard to tell from the info & pcitures!
Wasn’t able to find the drawing or painting I was talking about, so I’m thinking it may have been someone else… but whoooooo? LOL As with everything else, I’ll findit when I’m not looking for it! 🙂
Traci, I really like what you did on the yellow nude. So elegant.
