30 Days of Get Your Art On – Day 15

Today, it’s been hot. Again. It’s getting old, and it’s making me tired and cranky. Tonight I was working away, watching a movie while I worked on putting orders together. Then I remembered I hadn’t done anything yet for 30 days. I was really tired, and if it weren’t for this commitment, I would have just gone to bed. But I didn’t want to miss a day. Even if the product turned out to be not-so-great. I still wanted to keep the commitment. I still wanted to show up. So I decided to draw. I did 2 blind contour drawings on top of each other, and then did a quasi-blind contour drawing. I did them all on the same page to not waste paper. I kind of like how it looks with them on top of each other in different colors. It’s almost like a wonky 3-D drawing (without the glasses).

This was the next drawing, of the same things. It didn’t turn out so great either. And neither did the next one. But I’m still showing them because not everything turns out great all the time. That’s the way it is. But you’ve got to keep on keeping on. I really don’t care that they aren’t so hot. It’s practice.

And today marks the half way point. Pat yourself on the back. That’s 15 consecutive days of getting your art on. Those of you who have missed some days, pat yourself on the back anyway. Because even if you’ve missed some days, you are probably still doing more creative things than if you hadn’t made this commitment, right? That’s something. And those of you who joined after we started, pat yourself on the back too! And everyone, keep getting your art on! You can see the rest of my posts for this project here

Before I go, I want to tell you about a project that a friend, Trina Baker, is doing. She’s a Lawrence, KS artist also. Yesterday on twitter we both mentioned how we have so many cameras that we don’t use, even though they are cool. She decided that for 52 weeks, that’s a whole year, she’s going to take pictures with a different camera each week and blog about it. She’s going to use 26 different cameras, and then go through them all again. Now that’s a commitment! She’s an excellent photographer, so be sure to check it out. She’s starting this project Monday.

  1. WOW. I love the drawing on top of drawing. I’m going to do that tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration! Also, thanks for the 30 Days. I’m pinching myself because I can’t believe that not only have I done this, but blogged about it, also. The blogging and the photo uploads are nothing short of a miracle. I’ve never been even close to this consistent with either of those things, so thank you!

  2. Barbara: It’s so great that you’ve not only made art everyday, but blogged about it too. Once you get the hang of it, you can kind of get a rhythm with the photos or scans and how to streamline.

I think blogging about it is what makes me keep the commitment. There are things I’ve told myself I’ll do everyday, and it never happens. But announcing to the world you are going to tell them about it everyday, makes you accountable! I wish I could do other things everyday like I do my 30 days projects.
