Today, I got up, ate breakfast, walked Ruby, then went straight out to my very cold studio. I was ready to draw, but wasn’t inspired to draw anything in my studio. So I grabbed my journal, and started drawing on the tinted gesso spread that I created from this tutorial.
I drew with a Sakura Identi-Pen then colored it in with Copic Sketch markers.
I didn’t feel “fulfilled” with just doing that, so I drew a Virgin Mary on the right half of the spread. Then I kept going and turned it into a full-fledged journal spread. My pens and stamp pads weren’t cooperating. I think because my studio was still so cold. I was having to work in my coat and scarf. So I took a hair dryer to the Sakura Glaze pens,
and that helped a lot! I used my Sakura Koi watercolor set
to add some color to Mary. And I also used my Portfolio watersoluble oil pastels
and crayons.
Tomorrow there is a life drawing session at the University that I’ll go to!
AWESOME colours and LOVE the whole spread!
I love your pages. You’re Virgin Marys make me want to add some to my journals. I love the variety in your colors, lines and shapes!
Here’s my day 2 attempt: http://artiphytheheart.typepad.com/artiphytheheart/2011/12/smudged-little-fishies.html
Love the saying – speaks to me right now! Will probably make it my next journal page! Love your page, must try the gesso technique!
I love this page! I’m glad you used this background from the tutorial you did, since I really wanted to see what you’d do with it. Great work!
