Well . . . today was a good reminder why I MUST do art first thing in the morning, before I do other work. It’s after midnight, and I just did my drawing in bed. And although it’s fun drawing in bed, I’d rather just be watching Grey’s Anatomy in bed instead of multi-tasking. Plus, I’d rather do a better drawing.
Here’s what I drew. It’s Rodney–a doll I crocheted when I was a kid, maybe about 7 tears old. I still have him! I stuffed him with my mom’s old pantyhose. His features and bow tie are cut out of felt and sewn on with different colors of thread.
I drew with my EnerGel® Alloy RT Gel Pen, that I won from Pentel. I really love drawing with it. But, I discovered, if I draw with it, I shouldn’t add my watercolor
to it. The ink isn’t permanent. So, Rodney’s hair got a little blurry and darker, and so did other parts of him. But that’s ok. The big part of making art is trying things, and being willing to fail, or mess up. Now that I saw that the ink isn’t permanent, I can use that to my advantage if I want, using a wet brush to intentionally blur the lines, and create shading at the same time.
Time for bed! You can see my other posts for 30 Days of Drawing here.
Cool post…..!
Alan has so many toys that I can draw (some of these I knit), thanks for the drawing idea.
I really like Rodney! I think it’s a great, whimsical drawing, and I love the subtle shading that occurred when the in got wet and blended a bit with the watercolor.
